Working Artists making the arts work in Boyne
In July of 2009 SOBO took the Northern Michigan art world by storm. Freshwater Studio and the
non-profit Boyne Arts Collective opened galleries joining other creative businesses such as
SweetGrass Framing, Logo Pros imprinted apparel and Cindi Franco's Cool Stuff to form a brand
new Arts District in Boyne City. SOBO also boasts excellent food service businesses, including
220 Lake Street Food & Spirits, Lake Street Market and the new and hugely successful Sammich-
n-Sudz.
Freshwater Studio and the BAC revitalized two long vacant buildings, drawing much attention
from the media, and support from the public. Very soon the Boyne Arts Collective will become a
full fledged Community Arts Center offering classes and cultural performances, while creating
opportunity for local artists.
The success of SOBO is already drawing more Arts related businesses for 2010, and the future is
very exciting for downtown Boyne City.
